  FRANCOIS SPOERRY

Creator of the lagoon city of Port-Grimaud on the French Riviera.

François Spoerry graduated from the school of Fine Arts ("Ecole des Beaux Arts") in Marseille in 1943.
He opened his first architect office after the second world war, in Mulhouse, the city of his birth. His name is associated with a large number of rebuilding projects.
He built several residential complexes; as well as the ´Tower of Europe´ which was the highest structure in France of the time.
He was the town planner in charge of the new center in Mulhouse..

He was always dedicated to  a more human approach to architecture.

In the 60's, he began his main realization acting as architect and property developer : Port-Grimaud, now known throughout the world . One recalls his theories : Integration of the buildings in the environment, harmony in the landscape.

The townplanning and architectural success of Port-Grimaud, as well as its commercial success, brought the fame of Franois Spoerry up to international level, and foreign investors now ask him to act as a consultant for a variety of  projects (Bendinat).

Although now a specialist of lake village (Port-Grimaud, Bendinat, Port-Liberté), François Spoerry also studies alternative forms of  urban development, such as the planning of city center, upscale tourist complex incorporating hotel and holiday homes, estate with golf, enlargement of villages, welfare housing, etc…..

He summed up his ideas in a book entitled "L'Architecture Douce" ( "Gentle " architecture) Robert Laffont editor, which explains the main features of his work and the reasons for their architecture.
